The expression “déjà vu” refers to the sudden and temporary feeling of having already experienced a present situation: a moment in which past, present, and future seem to overlap.
For director and author Alessandro Businaro, this sensation re-emerges in local festivals, where food becomes a shared ritual. Through food, a community reconnects with its past and reaffirms its present identity.

From this idea comes Déjà Vu, a participatory performance that explores the relationship between memory, food, ritual, and both personal and collective identity.
The Pergine version of the performance is based on memories and testimonies collected in four care homes in Trentino (Pergine, Borgo Valsugana, Trento, and Grigno), where elderly residents shared recipes and food-related memories.

On stage: a set table. An actor and an actress move through these memories, acting as mediators between the collected stories and the audience.
Memory, therefore, does not belong to the past alone-it continues to act in the present, as a recognizable, unsettling, and still-living legacy.

IN SHORT

A set table. An actor and an actress bring to life memories and recipes collected from elderly residents in care homes across Trentino.
A participatory performance where food reactivates memories and identities, creating a bridge between past and present.
