The future ruling class does not know that the world it will govern is on the brink of collapse. At school, it is learning grammar, English, and probably the names of cities that may no longer exist in the future.
It travels by plane from an early age and does not know wired telephones.
Caterina Marino interviewed children between 6 and 13 years old over the course of a year: the text of the performance comes from these encounters.
Their words are brought on stage without filters, exactly as they were spoken, by two actors and two actresses.
The effect is immediate: small voices pass through adult bodies.
Topics include ecology, money, fear of the future, gender differences, and racism, expressed with striking clarity, between irony, imagination, and disorientation.
The stage evokes a large international assembly, modeled on a Climate Conference or the United Nations: the audience is directly confronted with the adult world to which these words are addressed.
At its core lies generational responsibility and the possibility of becoming political subjects again, beyond individualism, with a gaze that is not accusatory but open to change.
A performance as an act of love toward the future and toward those who, one day, will ask what has been done to change things.
IN SHORT
Children were asked about issues concerning the present and the future that awaits them. Their words are embodied by two actors and two actresses in a large assembly.
Between irony and disorientation, a direct confrontation between generations on responsibility and the possibility of change.
