Deaf people do not believe in silence.
Silence is an invention of the hearing.
Did you know that humans developed vocal cords only from Homo Erectus onwards?
Long marginalized by phonocentric power processes that have attempted to abolish it throughout history, LIS is a human, living, corporeal language, which does not speak of margins but of new forms.
Monumentum DA is a story, a body-to-body movement, which amplifies the intrinsic possibilities of sign language. It brings to the stage the relationship between language (signs) and speech (dance), dissolving the boundaries between the two fields and creating an archive of memories, which we could call “linguistic monuments”, in continuous movement.
The performance invites us to reconsider the expressive potential of the body and to open a space in which diversity is a pure expansion of possibilities.
The show is presented in collaboration with the Centro Servizi Santa Chiara in Trento.
