NATIONAL FIRST
Flyover Country is a deep and theatrical crossing of the United States and the forgotten territories of the Rust Belt. Areas nicknamed by residents of Atlantic and Californian metropolises flyover states: places not to go. Places to fly over, to look at from above for the duration of a coast-to-coast flight. In the show, three performers give voice to a chorus of characters, to evoke a story inspired by real events: The attacks on electrical infrastructures carried out by far-right accelerationist movements.
The show takes inspiration from Hillbilly Elegy by J. D. Vance (now US vice president and staunch supporter of Donald Trump) to tell, from a critical perspective, the white, marginal, armed and angry America. An America that has internalized and spread the economic system that today abandons it.
Flyover Country looks at the sky above America, at its broken promises, and wonders what, on this side of the ocean, are our lands to fly over. The lands left behind, defeated, angry.
IN A NUTSHELL
Taking inspiration and putting on stage the dark side of the American dream from the autobiographical memoir Hillbilly Elegy by J. D. Vance. A cross-section of the deep United States, the flyover states, a symbol of white, marginal, armed and angry America. But what are, on this side of the ocean, our “lands to fly over”?
