Canzuna Segreta, which is taken from La nuit juste avant les forêts, tells of the meeting between a foreigner and a stranger in the rain, in an incessant flow of words that reveal loneliness, hopes and dreams. The meeting between the two men becomes symbolic of the impossibility to communicate in contemporary society. The text, without punctuation, recalls the vertigo of the Beat Generation alongside the rhythm of bebop and pop music, exploring universal themes and contemporary themes such as loss of identity, marginalization and the absence of love. The translation, faithful to the original rhythm, uses a crude and direct language, which reflects the darkest streets of the city and the loneliness of the individual. In a hyper-connected world, one can feel like a stranger even in one’s own city, dying of loneliness despite virtual communication.

Joseph Massa trained with Claudio Collovà, Antonio Latella, Franco Scaldati and Matteo Bavera. In 2006, together with Fabrizio Ferracane and Giuseppe Provinzano, they founded the company Sutta Scupa, which takes its name from his first written and directed work. The show had a long tour in Italy and Europe and some scenes were included in the Palermo Shooting by Wim Wenders. Some of his texts were staged by Antonio Latella (Mamma Mafia, Schauspielhaus Koln; Kamikaze Number Five, Napoli Teatro Festival). In 2016, Editoria e Spettacolo published a collection of his texts. Since 2015 he has been directing the multicultural shows of Sutta Scupa. In 2019, he was a guest at the University of Melbourne where he directed a workshop on Ali Farah’s Antigone Power at an association for refugee women. In recent years, he has begun research on the myth of Medea and Romeo and Juliet. This year, he is directing Afraid of the dark? which debuts in Palermo at Spazio Franco.

Dario Mangiaracina is a multi-instrumentalist and composer from Palermo, co-founder of the band La Rappresentante di Lista, and author and performer of the songs that made the project successful with Veronica Lucchesi. He trained in the theatre by participating in workshops conducted by Emma Dante, Danio Manfredini and Franco Scaldati. He has released four albums with his band, the latest of which is My Mamma. LRDL participated in the Sanremo Festival with Love and then with Bye Bye. Their music has been around the world thanks to Paolo Sorrentino who wanted them in the soundtrack for New Pope and the series The white lotus. He is the author of songs for performers such as Patty Pravo, Fiorella Mannoia and Elettra Lamborghini. Last year he collaborated with Giuseppe Massa in the creation of a performance inspired by Guess Ventura by Franco Scaldati.
