Dad or Alive explores the conflict between the desire for parenthood and the fear of an uncertain future: whether to pass on a part of oneself or bring another life into a world in crisis.
Through stories, data, and personal confessions, spoken word, live electronic music, and video mapping, the performance gives voice to those who wonder whether becoming parents today is still a possible dream—or an unbearable responsibility.
Eco-anxiety, precarity, desire, fear: an intimate and political inquiry addressed to those who ask not only “do I want a child?” but above all, “what kind of world will they live in?”

BumBumFritz is the artistic project of Giovanni Frison (Fritz) and Michele Tonicello (BumBum), working across theatre, electronic music, and performances of “shipwrecked texts.”
They debuted in 2022 with the album Lasciate un messaggio dopo il segnale acustico (bip) and gained recognition with Dentifricio, awarded at the Catania Fringe Off and presented at Teatro Astra in Vicenza. In 2025 they won the “Rule Breaker” award at Stockholm Fringe Off and the Scenario Prize 2025 with Dad or Alive.
Giovanni Frison is a composer and sound designer working between electronic music and theatre, collaborating with national theatres and Radio3 productions.
Michele Tonicello is an actor and trainer, active between stage and directing, collaborating with companies such as Sotterraneo, Babilonia Teatri, and Anagoor, as well as national theatres and international digital theatre projects.

At 20:15 at Sala Maier there will be “Parole Mosaico”, a short meeting before the show led by the artistic direction, to share the themes, history and language of the performance and offer some keys to interpretation.
