Unidentified theatre objects 2000-19

Recently in theatre there has been talk of a “trend of the real”, referring to performances that mix biographical stories, fictional materials and references to current events, with professional and non-professional actors on stage. A brew that responds to the mutations of society and which need to be interrogated through the transmissions, direct or karst, of the ‘inventions’ of the New Italian theatre in its various historical ‘waves’, recent and otherwise. Lorenzo Donati, in the volume Writing with reality, starting from the disorientation of art in globalised society, takes stock of these tensions to rethink the relationship of theatre with its audiences.
