The Spectator condemned to death
Beppe Rosso/AMA Factory
The stage becomes a courtroom: this performance, based on the eponymous text The Spectator Condemned to Death by Matei Vișniec, uses dark humor to provoke reflection on a justice system that often spirals out of control. It explores the absurdity of an obsessive search for guilt that becomes an end in itself, where the machinery of justice crushes honest individuals at the expense of truth.
This is a participatory play where actors, judges, witnesses, lawyers, the director, and the audience collide and merge. The cast includes four professional actors alongside young students from Pergine’s Marie Curie Institute. These students will have participated in a workshop led by director Beppe Rosso in the preceding months.
A comedy-trial where a spectator is accused: a script that initially appears lighthearted, even humorous and entertaining, but ultimately prompts deeper and occasionally unsettling reflections.
The performance is presented in collaboration with ariaTeatro as part of the Fuoristagione program at Teatro di Pergine and is part of the Cittadine e Cittadini in Scena project, supported by Fondazione CARITRO.
