TEA FOR FIVE: OPIUM CLIPPERS
Neja Tomšič
In Tea For Five: Opium Clippers, the audience participates in a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. Using five hand-painted ceramic tea sets, Neja Tomšič recounts some little-known episodes in Chinese history, combining drawing, poetry and performance. The routes of the tea and opium trade reveal stories of power, conflict, and colonization that led to the development of capitalism, with important consequences for contemporary economic policies.
