Save the last dance for me
Alessandro Sciarroni
ALESSANDRO SCIARRONI, WINNER OF THE LEONE D’ORO AWARD FOR DANCE 2019
Sciarroni rediscovers the steps of the Chinata Polka, a Bolognese courtship dance from the early 1900’s that was originally danced only by men, and turns them into the main characters. Physically demanding, almost acrobatic. The dancers, embracing each other, whirl around with their knees so bent that they almost touch the ground. The project was born from the collaboration of Giancarlo Stagni, dance master who has given back life to this ancient tradition – only 5 dancers in Italy practiced this style of dance in 2018 – thanks to the study of video documentation from the 60’s.
Why you should see it ➜ “Alessandro Sciarroni makes dance a space for poetry and freedom. He saves and transforms a polka in an overwhelming whirlwind of passion: as hypnotic as it is ritualistic, and the audience gets to witness it all up close.”
At 5:00pm a workshop with Gianmaria Borzillo and Giovanfrancesco Giannini will be held.
