Portugal is not a small Country
Hotel Europa
NATIONAL PREMIERE
“Portugal is not a small country” looks at European dictatorship and the European presence in Africa, examining the case of Portugal, the country with the longest fascist dictatorship in Europe (48 years) and the longest colonial empire (almost 500 years). Through the real testimonies of former Portuguese colonists, who experienced the exodus of refugees from Africa, the show investigates stories that have now become, over time, memories. A reflection on how theatre can contribute to both rewriting history and the transmission of memories between generations.
Why you should see it ➜ “A show selected by the European Stronger Suburbs Project of which Pergine Festival is a partner. The longest yet least known dictatorship in Europe: the Portuguese, colonialism. Narrated with intelligence and irony.”
