JITNEY DI AUGUST WILSON
La Piccionaia / Renzo Carbonera
NATIONAL PREMIERE
This is the first Italian staging of the African-American playwright, which won the Pulizer Prize twice.
Pittsburgh, 1977. Wilson sets his work in a jitney station. Jitney was an alternative transport service to regular taxis which were too expensive, unwilling to pick up African-Americans. The drivers’ stories alternate with the rhythm of jazz and street language. They are the stories of those who, despite the achievements of the civil rights movement, are excluded from the American dream.
Reasons why we would like to invite you to see this show:
Daring is a tasks of the theater. The challenge is to stage an author who won 2 Pulitzer Prizes, which has never performed in Italy. A landmark author of the American black culture to talk about exploitation, identity, migration, and discrimination.
