IN-SITU Italia, a cultural consortium for art in public space is established

    Ph Leonardo Delogu, ph F.A.

“IN-SITU Italia”, a cultural consortium for art in public space composed by four Italian realities: ZONA K di Milano, Indisciplinarte di Terni in collaboration with BASE Milano,Sardegna Teatro di Cagliari e Pergine Festival in Trentino, was officially established. “IN-SITU Italia” gathers the Italian partners of “In-Situ”, the European platform created in 2003 and which today counts 19 partners from 13 countries. In the four-year period 2020-2024, the Italian consortium will promote the networking of skills and resources, collaborating within the European project “(Un)Common Spaces”.

In this period of suspension, with most activities blocked or forced to reinvent themselves digitally, the world of Italian and European culture does not stop working and looking to the future with confidence.

This is the direction taken by four Italian artistic realities to establish a consortium to travel together along the road of artistic creation in public space. ZONA K from Milan, Indisciplinarte from Terni in collaboration with BASE Milan, Sardegna Teatro from Cagliari and Pergine Festival in Trentino have formally created “In-Situ Italia”, the cultural consortium that brings together the Italian partners of “In-Situ”, the European platform for artistic creation in public space

The Italian consortium was created in response to the application for the (Un)Common Spaces 2020-2024 project, co-funded by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme to disseminate and consolidate the network’s action at national level.

The four Italian organisations have chosen to formalise the historic synergy between organisations with many years of experience in the field of artistic research for public space. The establishment of “In-Situ Italia” gives a European horizon to this collaboration, widening the scope of the actions undertaken, with a view to cross-fertilising networks to share skills and best practices.

The aim is to develop and support projects that are able to establish a dialogue with cities and their inhabitants, enhancing the public sphere and temporarily transforming places and relationships. The newly formed Italian network supports formats and participatory projects that involve communities, performances and installations adapted to the urban space and contaminated by languages.

In particular, the associated artist of In-Situ Italia for the four-year period 2020-2024 is Leonardo Delogu. Author, performer, activist, trainer, graduated at the European School for Actors of Emilia Romagna Teatro, Delogu deals with research on movement and landscape. His most recent projects investigate the regeneration of toxic places through performative practices and community rituals.

Alongside the associated artists, 16 “citizens”, professionals and researchers have also been selected to accompany the network’s work over the next few years. The consortium selected Alessia Zabatino, policymaker, activist, member of the Forum Inequalities and Diversity with a PhD in territorial planning. From 13 to 17 April, the digital kick-off of the programme will take place, which will engage the consortium for the next 4 years with 16 associated artists, 16 professionals and 19 partners from all over Europe

    I PARTNER ITALIANI

ZONA K, based in Milan, is a cultural space dedicated to the exchange between artistic and cultural disciplines. The work of ZONA K opens its gaze to the world, hosting some of Europe’s avant-garde performance artists engaged in a theatre that looks to the present, that involves the audience in different forms and measures, that uses technological devices for new forms of artistic fruition, that inhabits unconventional places.

The Teatro di Sardegna, recognised by the Mibact in 2015 as a “Theatre of Significant Cultural Interest” with the Sardegna Teatro project, is a cultural centre at the heart of the Mediterranean, managing a plurality of spaces, entering specific contexts thanks to different artistic languages. Its action as a performance-producing body is enriched by the encounter with the communities of the territories it inhabits, through long-term site-specific actions, activating complex and non-peaceful processes. In the last 6 years it has hosted and co-produced artists from the IN SITU network, including Leonardo Delogu, Strasse, Zimmerfrei, creating a participatory mode, capable of finding new narratives and new visions on places and people.

Indisciplinarte is a creative group that since 2007 has been working on curating, European planning and territorial cultural development, working in continuous interaction with a consolidated network of national and international relations. The activities it produces are very diversified (from artistic residencies to curatorial programmes) and all linked by a single underlying principle, according to which the strategic role of culture and art is to generate social change. Indisciplinarte is based in Terni, Umbria, and for the network it collaborates with BASE Milan through the artistic direction of Linda Di Pietro.

Pergine Festival is the oldest and longest-running festival in Trentino. It was born in 1976 as “Pergine Spettacolo Aperto”, the first big summer stage in the region. Over the years it has hosted the big names in theatre and music, evolving towards a more experimental and workshop-based concept. Today Pergine Festival is a theatre and performing arts festival, closely linked to the town where it was born and in constant dialogue with the community and the spaces of the urban landscape.
