Our senses are the door to the outer and to our inner world since it is through our “skin” that everything has to be lived, experienced, known, and elaborated. Far from being simple surface organs our senses actually shape our own self allowing a dialogue with the Other and the rest of the outer world. How much space is given to senses in the contemporary world? Our senses are bombarded and attacked by thousands of pollutants and, at the same time, they are disregarded by a culture that privileges aseptic and abstracts entities. Thus our senses tend to shrink, to function in a more and more reductive manner, to burn out, and to flatten down to a level of mere performance.
This year the Pergine Spettacolo Aperto Festival invites scientists and artists to share opinions about how the senses function, how they can be stimulated and awakened through the creation of unusual works. A stage spread throughout the urban spaces, within the areas of the former psychiatric hospital, in gardens, private houses and parks will invite us to discover artistic installations, theatrical pieces, meetings, debates, shows and musical performances as if in a treasure hunt—in all senses!
On July 6th the craziest party of the year is back! Within the splendid frame of the Tre Castagni Park in Pergine one can enjoy a unique carnival, an authentic invasion of masks and colors, invigorated by street artists, music, dance and shows.
The Grand Parade of the Seven Sins on Saturday the 7th of July cannot be missed: an allegorical pageant will parade through the streets of the historical centre in a spectacular reinterpretation embraced by a night devoted to the ecstasy of the senses. The evening will culminate in the extraordinary contemporary circus show by the Swedish Cirkus Cirkör, the acrobatic figures of the Magda Clan collective, and the irresistible music of the Ska-J, and the FaRe Jazz Big Band.
