    The festival Christmas stories

One of last festival’s events was presented by the English collective Kaleider and was called “The Money”. The performance required the direct participation of the audience who had to decide how to spend the tickets’ money within ninety minutes. If the patrons didn’t reach a unanimous decision the money went to the next group.
Luckily some of these session have reached a decision and now the groups are taking action. One of these was to use the money for a fund towards theatre “spare tickets” available for free to those in economic or social difficulties. Thanks to the partnership with Pergine theatre it was possible to set up the fund and now the idea is spreading, involving other associations and social enterprises.

Another group decided to spend the money in some encounters with strangers. Manuela for instance has met Sonny, an old man from Nigeria, and Cristina has spent some time with Sophie, a peddler from Senegal mother of three children and in need of meeting other women. Valeria has drunken a coffee with Alì, who has become a road windscreen cleaner after losing his job. Anna has bought some fruit to share with new friends and Daniele has helped an organisation that bring wireless connection to remote areas.
We like to think these simple tokens are the effects of a performance but also show a shared feeling, a generosity that spreads from a common idea, a sense of belonging to the community. Merry Christmas, everyone.
